If you are interested in establishing a self managed super fund for yourself we suggest you contact an accountant or solicitor or start by reviewing information on the ATO website

Term Deposits for SMSF
You're eligible for a UBank Term Deposit, if you can say yes to the three statements below:
- I'm aged 18 years old or over (maximum two applicants).
Or
A trustee of a self managed super fund that complies with the SIS legislation. Where trustees are individuals, applications will only be accepted where there are two persons as trustees. Where the trustee is a company, applications will only be accepted where there are two or less directors only.
- I have an Australian residential and postal address, and I am an Australian resident for taxation purposes.
- I have an email address and mobile phone number (for joint accounts each applicant must have a different email address).
We'll calculate interest on your UBank Term Deposit on a daily basis from the day we receive your funds, and credit interest as follows:
- For UBank Term Deposits shorter than 12 months, we pay accrued interest at the maturity of that term.
- For a 12 month UBank Term Deposit, you can choose to have interest paid to your chosen bank account monthly or at maturity.
- For UBank Term Deposits greater than 12 months, you can choose to have interest paid to your chosen bank account monthly or annually and then at maturity.
No. It's a fixed rate. So the rate you sign up for is the rate you get for the whole term, no matter what's going on in the money markets.
Take your pick from fixed terms of 1, 3, 6, 9, or 12 months.
You must have at least $1,000 to open a UBank Term Deposit for SMSF. The maximum is $2 million per account.
As far as UBank Term Deposit for SMSF accounts go, there are no fees or charges payable.
After we receive your application, we guarantee the interest rate for 5 calendar days. So it's important to transfer your full deposit within that time as we don't want you to miss out. After this time the rate that will apply is that on the day your funds are received.
So to guarantee the interest rate you apply for, it pays to move fast on your deposit.
Sorry, no. While UBank is backed by NAB, it's not possible to share accounts between both banks.
Applying
You apply online using our simple step-by-step application.
Unfortunately, no - but you can open an account online. It's easy and can be done in just three simple steps.
When you apply, we need you to tell us certain personal information about yourself and your self managed super fund. This includes, but isn't restricted to, the following:
- Details of the trustees and beneficiaries or your fund.
- Your driver's licence number (if applicable).
- An Australian mobile phone number
- The details of the bank account you wish to link to your term deposit.
- A secret question and answer (we will use these to identify you when you call).
Not if you're an existing UBank customer and provide us with your account number.
But if you're new to us, yes. We'll do this electronically by using public domain databases, but if this is not successful, we'll need you to provide us with some documents. We'll let you know after you've applied.
If you haven't met UBank's identity checks then certain limitations apply. Most importantly we can't send you any funds until you meet our identification requirements.
This includes your deposit and any interest you may have accrued.
This applies at any time, including during the term of your deposit, and at maturity.
That's the account that we transfer your money to once your account reaches maturity. You choose this account when you apply, and can change it if you need to.
For self managed super funds the account must be in the same name as the fund or trustee/s of the fund.
Yes, but we'll also need to verify the details of the new account. Call us anytime on 13 30 90 for details of how to verify your new account. Please tell us at least five days before maturity.
As many as you like. The minimum amount in each must be $1,000.
When considering a new account (savings account, Term Deposit for SMSF or other investment), it is important to consider how many days it will take to set up the account and to transfer your money. If your money has to sit in a non interest bearing transaction account for, say 5 days to wait for paperwork to clear, then this can have a dramatic effect on the effective interest rate you are getting.
When you're keen to see your money grow, the last thing you want is to wait around for paperwork to be processed. That's why we created UBank Turbo - so you can start earning interest on your money even sooner.
You can transfer you money immediately after application and start earning interest sooner.
After applying
In most cases your account will be set up immediately after you apply. You can then access your account via UBank Online at ubank.com.au
We'll also send you a letter once your account has been set up. But you can always check in with us anytime on 13 30 90.

Maturity
For a 1 month term, if you're ever unsure when your term's maturing, simply call us on 13 30 90 - anytime at all.
For all other terms, we'll let you know before your maturity. It's really important you tell us what you want to do before maturity, which you need to do no later than 5 days before your official end-date. If we don't hear from you, we'll roll your money over into a new Term Deposit for SMSF, at the current rate.
Alternatively, you can set up an SMS alert to remind you when your Term Deposit for SMSF is to mature. To do this simply login online and go to 'MyMoney'.
Re-invest (and add more to it if you like). If you choose to leave the money where it is, you may be eligible for our unique UBank Loyalty Bonus, which is 0.10% p.a. above the current rate on the maturity date.
Re-invest a reduced amount.
Take the money and run.

Once your term matures and you choose to rollover your full deposit (or more) we'll give you the unique UBank Loyalty Bonus - which is 0.10% p.a. above our already impressive Term Deposit for SMSF rate.
You can't add money during the term of your Term Deposit for SMSF. But once your account has reached maturity you can add additional funds to your UBank Term Deposit for SMSF (and you may be eligible to get our 0.10% p.a. unique UBank Loyalty Bonus for doing so).
Of course, you can always open a new UBank Term Deposit for SMSF account.
No. Your chosen bank account can only be set up with Australian financial institutions.
You can, but we may reduce the interest payable on your Term Deposit for SMSF by a reasonable estimate of the costs to us, known as a Pre-payment Cost.
If you withdraw an amount from your Term Deposit for SMSF prior to maturity, we may reduce the interest earned by what we consider to be a reasonable estimate of the costs to us. This cost, known as a Pre-payment Cost, may total (or be up to) the accrued interest amount, but will not exceed this amount.
We calculate the difference between the interest rate at the time of your initial deposit and interest rates at the time you want to withdraw your funds. If interest rates have increased since your deposit was lodged, the cost to UBank to replace those funds withdrawn will have increased.
Then we calculate the cost of replacing the funds withdrawn and deduct this from your accrued interest.

USaver SMSF
You're eligible for a USaver, if you can say yes to all of the statements below:
- I'm aged 18 years old or over (maximum two applicants)
- trustee of a self managed super fund that complies with the SIS legislation. Where trustees are individuals, applications will only be accepted where there are two persons as trustees. Where the trustee is a company, applications will only be accepted where there are two or less directors only.
and
- I have an Australian residential and postal address, and I am an Australian resident for taxation purposes
- I have an email address and mobile phone number (for joint accounts each applicant must have a different email address).
Other than a trustee of a self managed super fund that complies with the SIS legislation, you can't open a UBank USaver SMSF in a company or business name (including sole traders) or in a trust capacity.
We only accept applications where the account can be operated by either party independently. This is to enable full use of our online services. If you need to operate the account as 'both to sign' this account is not for you.
View Ubank's USaver SMSF Terms & conditions.
Opening a USaver SMSF
You apply online using our simple step-by-step application.
When you apply, we need you to tell us certain personal information about yourself and your self managed super fund. This includes, but isn't restricted to, the following:
- Details of the trustees and beneficiaries or your fund.
- Your driver's licence number (if applicable).
- An Australian mobile phone number.
- A secret question and answer (we will use these to identify you when you call).
Unfortunately, no - but you can open an account online. It's easy and can be done in just three simple steps.
In most cases your account will be set up immediately after you apply. You can then access your account by logging in at ubank.com.au with the temporary password we send you upon receiving your application.
We'll also send you a letter once your account has been set up. But you can always check in with us anytime on 13 30 90.
Most importantly you won't be able to access your funds until you meet our identification requirements. This includes your deposit and any interest you may have accrued.
Interest
We calculate interest on the daily closing credit balance of your UBank USaver SMSF, up to and including the last day of the month. Interest is credited to your account on the last business day of each month (or at account closure).
The bonus interest rate applies in months where you don't make any withdrawals from your account. On the last day of the month once we determine that you are eligible for the bonus rate, we apply the higher rate, which is calculated daily, and paid monthly.
If you add funds to your account during the month, interest on these funds only applies for the days that they have been in the account. For example if you have $1 million in your account at the beginning of the month and then you add another $500,000 during the month, you'll only earn the interest on this additional money for the actual time it was in your account and not for the entire month.
The interest rate applying to your UBank USaver SMSF is a variable rate and may change from time to time.
We will advertise the changes in a major newspaper or by post or email no later than the day the interest rate change takes affect.
Automatic Savings Plans
ASP transactions will generally appear in your USaver SMSF account the following business day, but it can take an extra 1 or 2 business days for it to show up in your external account. This is because of the way USaver SMSF pulls funds from your external account (rather than the usual way of pushing funds from it).
When you initiate an ASP payment, the money will appear as "uncleared funds" both in your USaver SMSF Online Banking screen and customer balance chart. The funds will take 4 business days to clear and only then will you be able to transact with them.
There are two reasons:
- This is the time it takes to guarantee that the transaction can be honoured by the external account provider.
- It also protects you, as it provides 3 days notice to the owner of the external account that a withdrawal has been requested by the USaver SMSF account - allowing enough time for it to be stopped if it's a fraudulent request.
No. Some financial institutions may not allow direct debits on a range of accounts. Before setting up a direct debit, it's worth checking with your financial institution.
Deposits and withdrawals
There is no minimum balance. The maximum amount is $2 million per customer. In the case of a USaver SMSF the customer is the fund. That means if you have 10 USaver accounts they all need to have a combined balance of $2 million or under.
One off or ad hoc transfers.
BPAY® - lets you transfer funds electronically by using a simple BPAY® biller code and a unique customer reference number. Our biller code is 768374 and your customer reference number is your account number. Use these to make your deposit, and start earning interest immediately, all with no hassles and no paperwork.
Funds Transfer - simply transfer funds from any Australian bank account. Your USaver SMSF BSB number is 082-991. You'll also need your account number to make the funds transfer, you can find this by logging into UBank. Both your BSB and account number are shown within the USaver SMSF Account summary.
If you do not have a record of your account number, don't worry, just give us a call on 13 30 90 and we'll provide this to you.
Cheque - simply write us a cheque made payable to UBank or the account holder(s). You'll need to write your full name, address, date of birth and your account number on the reverse side of the cheque. Please note we can't accept a third party cheque
Send us your cheque to (no stamp required):

Linked account transfer - this is the most convenient method if you plan to make multiple deposits from one of your own accounts. To set up and verify a linked account, simply log in at ubank.com.au and select 'Create linked account', from the Transfer Money menu and follow the prompts.
Once you've provided your linked account details we'll send a micro-payment of $0.01 to your linked account with your Authentication Number in the transaction description. This will normally appear in your linked account within one business day. Once you have the Authentication Number, please return to ubank.com.au, log in and select 'Create linked account', from the Transfer Money menu. Finally, select the "Pending" link next to your new linked account and enter the Authentication number to complete the verification process.
And just so you know there's no limit to the number of linked accounts you can set up but there is a daily transfer $10k limit from verified linked accounts.
There are several ways that you can pay money out of your account, including:
- Linked account transfer
- Pay anyone
- Transfer funds between your USaver SMSF accounts
- Pay another USaver account.
If there are accounts you make regular payments to, you should add them as a 'Payee' within a 'Payee Category'. To add a payee you must select or add the payee to a 'Payee category'. To add a Payee category select 'My Payees' from the 'Payments' menu.
Your payees are separated into categories, so you must first choose a name for the category. Here are a few examples to get you started: 'Friends and Family',' Colleagues' and 'My Accounts'. But you can call them whatever you like.
You'll then be able to 'Add Payee Details'. And then keep adding 'Payees' to the category as you see fit. By adding Payees you'll be able to transfer funds to accounts you frequently transfer money to. This way you won't have to enter in the payee details every time.
Yes, when you open your account we'll give you a UBank USaver SMSF BSB and account number. You can then transfer funds from any Australian bank to your USaver SMSF account. Please check with your bank as restrictions may apply.
Yes we can - you can take the hard work out of saving by setting up an Automatic Savings Plan (ASP). You can set up an amount to regularly contribute (every week or month etc - it's your choice). Then you can just sit back and watch your money grow, automatically.

Sorry, not right now. Here's how you can deposit money into your USaver SMSF.
BPAY® - lets you transfer funds electronically by using a simple BPAY® biller code and a unique customer reference number. Our biller code is 768374 and your customer reference number is your account number. Use these to make your deposit, and start earning interest immediately, all with no hassles and no paperwork.
Funds Transfer - take advantage of UBank Turbo by sending your deposit via Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT). Simply transfer funds from any Australian bank account using the UBank USaver SMSF BSB number (082991) and your account number.
Set up an Automatic Savings Plan (Direct Debit) - an Automatic Savings Plan (ASP) regularly draws a fixed amount of money from your linked bank account at a set time (every week or month etc - it's your choice).

When considering a new account (savings account, term deposit or other investment), it is important to consider how many days it will take to set up the account and to transfer your money.
You can transfer your money immediately after application and start earning interest sooner.
Most banks will allow you to increase the daily withdrawal limit. Just give them a call to arrange - most will do so on the spot. If you still experience difficulties give us a call anytime on 13 30 90 and speak to a real person.
Of course, you could always send us a personal or bank cheque.

Bonus interest
You'll be eligible to earn bonus interest on your USaver SMSF account in months where you don't make any withdrawals. Transfers between your other USaver SMSF accounts don't count as withdrawals so you'll still qualify to earn the bonus interest.
You'll earn Bonus interest in the month in which you haven't made any withdrawals. So if no withdrawals are made on an account in June, interest is earned at the base rate plus Bonus Interest rate for the entire month of June.
Once we have identified you account is eligible we adjust the interest rate for that month to include the Bonus Interest rate and recalculate your interest for that month at the base rate plus Bonus Interest rate.
Effectively yes. Even though your account is not adjusted until the last business day of the month, interest is credited at the base rate plus Bonus Interest rate for the entire month.
The new rate will be applied from the day we implement the new rate. E.g. if the Bonus Interest rate changes from 0.50% to 0.55% on June 15th and your account qualifies for Bonus Interest in June – your account will earn interest at the base rate plus 0.50% up to and including June 14th and base rate plus 0.55% from June 15th to June 30th.
Yes! Any USaver SMSF account where you don't make any withdrawals in that month will qualify for Bonus Interest.
Not automatically no. We determine eligibility each month, so you must continue to meet the eligibility criteria to continue to earn interest at the Bonus Interest rate
