No, we currently offer UBank term deposits to existing self managed super funds only.

If you are interested in establishing a self managed super fund for yourself we suggest you contact an accountant or solicitor or start by reviewing information on the ATO website

How will you verify my self managed super fund?

To ensure that your deposit remains safe and secure we need to verify your identity and some of the information you provide on your application. It's easy – we need you to simply send us the documents detailed below:

  • And for UBank Term Deposits

  • A copy of a bank statement or a print out of an online transaction summary that shows the account name and number. We need this to verify the bank account that's linked to a UBank Term Deposit.

Who can certify my documents?

  • A person who is enrolled on the roll of the Supreme Court of a State or Territory, or the High Court of Australia, as a legal practitioner (however described).

When you're keen to see your money grow, the last thing you want is to wait around for paperwork to be processed. That's why we created UBank Turbo - so you can start earning interest on your money even sooner.

Can I withdraw my UBank Term Deposit for SMSF Early?

You can, but we may reduce the interest payable on your Term Deposit for SMSF by a reasonable estimate of the costs to us, known as a Pre-payment Cost.

What is a Pre-payment Cost?

If you withdraw an amount from your Term Deposit for SMSF prior to maturity, we may reduce the interest earned by what we consider to be a reasonable estimate of the costs to us. This cost, known as a Pre-payment Cost, may total (or be up to) the accrued interest amount, but will not exceed this amount.

How do you calculate the Pre-payment Cost?

We calculate the difference between the interest rate at the time of your initial deposit and interest rates at the time you want to withdraw your funds. If interest rates have increased since your deposit was lodged, the cost to UBank to replace those funds withdrawn will have increased.

Then we calculate the cost of replacing the funds withdrawn and deduct this from your accrued interest.

Automatic Savings Plans

Why does the ASP balance appear in my USaver SMSF when it hasn't been debited from my external account?

ASP transactions will generally appear in your USaver SMSF account the following business day, but it can take an extra 1 or 2 business days for it to show up in your external account. This is because of the way USaver SMSF pulls funds from your external account (rather than the usual way of pushing funds from it).

How long does it take ASP funds to clear?

When you initiate an ASP payment, the money will appear as "uncleared funds" both in your USaver SMSF Online Banking screen and customer balance chart. The funds will take 4 business days to clear and only then will you be able to transact with them.

Why does it take 4 days for ASP funds to clear?

There are two reasons:

  • This is the time it takes to guarantee that the transaction can be honoured by the external account provider.
  • It also protects you, as it provides 3 days notice to the owner of the external account that a withdrawal has been requested by the USaver SMSF account - allowing enough time for it to be stopped if it's a fraudulent request.

Do all Australian financial institutions accept Direct Debits on their accounts?

No. Some financial institutions may not allow direct debits on a range of accounts. Before setting up a direct debit, it's worth checking with your financial institution.

deposits and withdrawals

What is the minimum and maximum amount I can deposit into a USaver SMSF?

There is no minimum balance. The maximum amount is $2 million per customer. In the case of a USaver SMSF the customer is the fund. That means if you have 10 USaver accounts they all need to have a combined balance of $2 million or under.

How do I deposit money into my USaver SMSF?

Funds Transfer - simply transfer funds from any Australian bank account. Your USaver SMSF BSB number is 082-991. You'll also need your account number to make the funds transfer, you can find this by logging into UBank. Both your BSB and account number are shown within the USaver SMSF Account summary.

Linked account transfer - this is the most convenient method if you plan to make multiple deposits from one of your own accounts. To set up and verify a linked account, simply log into UBank and select 'Manage my accounts'. From there, select 'Linked Accounts' from the 'Accounts' menu, and follow the prompts. Once you've provided your linked account details we'll send a micro-payment of $0.01 to your linked account with your Authentication Number in the transaction description. This will normally appear in your linked account within one business day.

Once you have the Authentication Number, please return to UBank, log in and select 'Linked Accounts' from the 'Accounts' menu. Then click on the 'Pending' link, enter the Authentication Number and hit 'enter'. Now, every time you'd like to make a linked account transfer, return to UBank and make your transfer. There's no limit to the number of linked accounts you can set up, and no limit to the amount you can transfer to a verified linked account.

There are several ways that you can pay money out of your account, including:

  • Linked account transfer
  • Pay anyone
  • Transfer funds between your USaver SMSF accounts
  • Pay another USaver account.

If there are accounts you make regular payments to, you should add them as a 'Payee' within a 'Payee Category'. To add a payee you must select or add the payee to a 'Payee category'. To add a Payee category select 'My Payees' from the 'Payments' menu.

Your payees are separated into categories, so you must first choose a name for the category. Here are a few examples to get you started: 'Friends and Family',' Colleagues' and 'My Accounts'. But you can call them whatever you like.

You'll then be able to 'Add Payee Details'. And then keep adding 'Payees' to the category as you see fit. By adding Payees you'll be able to transfer funds to accounts you frequently transfer money to. This way you won't have to enter in the payee details every time.

Can I use direct credit to transfer funds?

What is Turbo Deposits?

When considering a new account (savings account, term deposit or other investment), it is important to consider how many days it will take to set up the account and to transfer your money. If your money has to sit in a non interest bearing transaction account for, say 5 days to wait for paperwork to clear, then this can have a dramatic effect on the effective interest rate you are getting.

When you're keen to see your money grow, the last thing you want is to wait around for paperwork to be processed. That's why we created UBank Turbo - so you can start earning interest on your money even sooner.

You can transfer your money immediately after application and start earning interest sooner.

I tried to transfer money via Funds Transfers but the bank won't let me transfer the whole amount in one hit. What do I do?

Most banks will allow you to increase the daily withdrawal limit. Just give them a call to arrange - most will do so on the spot. If you still experience difficulties give us a call anytime on 13 30 90 and speak to a real person.

Of course, you could always send us a personal or bank cheque.

bonus interest

Which USaver SMSF accounts qualify for Bonus Interest?

You'll be eligible to earn bonus interest on your USaver SMSF account in months where you don't make any withdrawals. Transfers between your other USaver SMSF accounts don't count as withdrawals so you'll still qualify to earn the bonus interest.

When do I earn Bonus interest on my USaver SMSF?

You'll earn Bonus interest in the month in which you haven't made any withdrawals. So if no withdrawals are made on an account in June, interest is earned at the base rate plus Bonus Interest rate for the entire month of June.

Once we have identified you account is eligible we adjust the interest rate for that month to include the Bonus Interest rate and recalculate your interest for that month at the base rate plus Bonus Interest rate.

Can I earn the ASP Savings Bonus interest immediately?

Effectively yes. Even though your account is not adjusted until the last business day of the month, interest is credited at the base rate plus Bonus Interest rate for the entire month.

If the Bonus Interest rate changes when will I earn interest at the new rate?

The new rate will be applied from the day we implement the new rate. E.g. if the Bonus Interest rate changes from 0.50% to 0.55% on June 15th and your account qualifies for Bonus Interest in June – Your account will earn interest at the base rate plus 0.50% until June 15th and base rate plus 0.55% from June 16th to June 30th.

Can I get Bonus Interest on more than one account?

Yes! Any USaver SMSF account where you don't make any withdrawals in that month will qualify for Bonus Interest.

If I have qualified for Bonus Interest this month does my account qualify for the Savings Bonus next month?

Not automatically no. We determine eligibility each month, so you must continue to meet the eligibility criteria to continue to earn interest at the Bonus Interest rate
