Safety Tips

Here are a few simple steps you can take to help protect yourself from unwanted scammers.

Look after your password
Which, simply put, means don‘t give it to anyone! Even UBank staff. Also make sure it‘s hard to guess. Never write it down. And change it frequently.

Don‘t use the same password for your regular internet websites which are often less secure and easily compromised by hackers that you would use for your UBank online account.

Your password should be at least 6 characters long and contain at least one numeric and one alpha character.

It is a great idea to create a password based on a mnemonic such as an easily remembered phrase or song title. Take the first letter of each word in a phrase, then add a few numbers to it. For example, "To be or not to be, that is the question" can become "2borX2bQ".

Keep an eye on your mobile phone
We‘ll SMS you one-time passwords for internet transactions, so it‘s important to keep your phone secure. If ever it stops working, get in touch with your service provider to ensure you haven‘t been a victim of mobile porting.

Remember to log off
Whenever you‘re done with an online banking session, make sure you log off.

Don‘t use public computers for online banking
Where possible avoid using computers in public places, such as internet cafes, hotels and airport lounges to conduct online banking.

Be aware when internet banking
Don‘t ever leave your computer unattended while banking online, especially on a shared computer. Make sure the URL reads ‘https‘ or ‘secure‘ and there‘s a lock in the bottom right of your screen.

Don‘t get caught by phishing
UBank will never send you an email with a link to online banking, so treat any unsolicited email with suspicion.

Up the ante with anti-virus software
It‘s really important to have an up-to-date anti-virus program, as they detect and prevents online attacks – keeping scammers far away from your hard-earned money.

Stay current
Keep your operating systems in top shape by ensuring automatic updates are switched on and installed when available.

Regularly check your account statements
